Monday

This morning, Mr. Watson told us that this weekend he cut his thumb really badly, cleaning his fish tank. Then, we went over our vocab homework. The answers were salvo, prior, perjury, flagrant, domestic, nurtured, detest, vigilant, presume, wrath, flaw, amiss, fledgling, momentum, brawl, flustered, notable, proficient, foremost, and paradox. Numbers 1-20 were wrath, momentum, vigilant, fluster, domestic, brawl, perjury, notable, proficient, fledgling, presume, nurture, paradox, amiss, salvo, and the antonyms were detest, prior, flaw, flagrant, and foremost. Then he told us to check are grades to make sure we had our book reviews and no zeros. Don’t forget guys that we have our Job and Journal Response on the rest of Wanderer, and 89+90 in vocab!!!

Cum Tests Graded!

Today when we came into class Mr. Watson passed out our tests. Ten Mr. Watson said that we are going to go over the test. Mr. Watson told us that we should pay attention during class so that if we got something write then he would change it in the grade book. Mr. Watson told us that Mrs. Baird and Mr. Watson are going to be switching places for the 3rd courter. He said that he majored in Science. Then Mr. Watson told us that we have to have one more vocab quiz before Christmas break. So we went over the vocab. Then we talked about things that we DETEST (which are one of our words)! Then I read the word presume!!! Tomorrow we need both of our book reviews due. Pa 87 and 88 vocab due Monday and p 89 and 90 in vocab due Tuesday. Wednesday is our test.a

Cumulative Test Day

Hey Kids,
Mr. Watson here. Today you took the cumulative test, and even though I've only graded two classes worth, I have to say I'm pleased with the results. Friday closes the second quarter, so make sure you have the book reviews in to me and have your job and journal response done as well. THe reading for Friday is Chapters 61-69. I plan on having all of your tests done by tomorrow, so we'll go over them in class. See you then!

Today in class, we reviewed the answers to our vocabulary homework that we had last night for pages 70 through 71. We had a pretty hard time since Mr. Watson wasn’t here today. Instead of Mr. Watson teaching us today, it was Senorita Alvarez. I couldn’t find out the answers to some of them because I left my book at home, but I did do it! Ms. Alvarez really didn’t know how the Scribe works, so we had to fill her in on about how to do it and what we did for it and how we typed it and send it to Mr. Watson. Ms. Alvarez also named Ganga as Mr. Watson, but instead of calling him Mr. Watson, we had to call him Mr. Baird. Nicki had a very good Job, which was a Summarizer, and she had talked about Sophie telling the crew a couple more stories about Bompie, about him talking to his father when he was really sick and about to die and how his father told him that he was sorry about giving him all of those whippings and then said, “Hey, would you like some apple pie?” Olivia asked about some words that we’ve never really heard of before, which were sextant, oblivious, and forecabin. Emily thought that these ten chapters were really complex. Meredith thought that it was really funny when Cody got caught in the rain. Pretty much the only bad thing in class was when Jad came in late to class about 20 minutes late. There is also a real change in Bompie’s father when his father was sick- he bought Bompie an apple pie. Emily asked some good question that should probably be on a quiz sometime- Why did Bompie’s father give him an apple pie and where do you think Sophie met Bompie? I didn’t really get to hear the answers to those two questions because I was typing the scribe and couldn’t hear because of the typing and clicking of the buttons on my tablet.

Mr. Watson’s first words as we entered the classroom were close our tablets and get out our homework. Our homework was vocab pages 68 and 69. I also noticed that Mr. Watson has quite a collection of webkinz on his desk. Mr. Watson explained to us how Salem, Massachusetts was known for their witches. Mr. Watson “duped” us by telling us that there is someone looking through the window, but it scared Emily and I out of out pants. After we checked our homework, we turned to page 65, and played a game about the words where we told some sort of story. The story turned out to be about a cow that was actually a makeshift of Johnny and Billy. For tomorrow, you need to have pages 70 and 71 done in your vocab book and read chapters 50-60 in The Wanderer. Don't forget your job and journal response!

The Wanderer 39-49

Today, I am scribe! Horray! Today is Job and Journal response day, so our desks were in a circle. Mr. Watson started class by examining some stinky and repulsive gym shirt, it smelled so bad that he chucked it on ground in the middle of the classroom. After that Mr. Watson said to shut your tablet unless you were scribe (me) or a sumerizer. Some people have an awful hard time with the concept of closing their tablets, but I can’t figure out why. Today reading chapters 39- 49 and our Job and Journal responses were due! Most people shared the stuff they had written. Nicki wrote a superb journal response wich started a conversation about weather or not sophie was “self centered” or not. Our homework that is due Tuesday is chapters 50- 60 and our Jobs and Jornal Resopnses. We also have to do pages 68 and 69 due Monday in our vocab book.

Remember to study for the midterm on the 12th of December. Also, remember Christmas break is coming up but remember school is still going on so behave. If you are bored during Christmas break come and see the play “A year with Frog and Toad”. Elizabeth and I are in it and it opens the 26th at Riverside Children’s Theatre. Happy Friday and happy weekend. Mr.Watson just said to come to his classroom for break for a special snack! Hip hip hooray!!!!! The weekend is almost here, I can almost smell it!

Study Guide...

At the Beginning of class, Mr. Watson told us what we were doing…which was making a study guide. First he wrote content on the board. Content means what the test will contain.
Content- Unit 6 Vocabulary, Grammar Lesson 3.7 and 3.8. We are reviewing progressive tenses (past progressives + past progressive. We are also reviewing perfect tenses (present perfect + past perfect).

Mr. Watson was writing all of this on the board. He said that present progressive and past progressive would end in ING. The three helping verbs that are possible for present progressive are: Is/am/are. The two choices for the helping verbs for past progressive are: was/were).

Mr. Watson said that the end of present/past perfect would end in ED. There are two choices for the helping verbs for present perfect are: has/have. The only choice for the helping verb for the past perfect is: had.


Then Mr. Watson wrote “Resources” on the board which is what can help us prepare for the test.

Wanderer 35-38

First to start off the day, MR. Watson told us to get out our Job and Journal Response. After we did that, he then asked us 3 questions:

1. What does 88 mean? Answer: Hugs and Kisses.
2. Why was the Wanderer stopping so many times? Answer: Because they were trying to find Rosalie.
3. What is Rosalie’s favorite animal? Answer: A Whale.

After that, we had a class discussion about what is bothering Sophie. Michael said that maybe it was her dream about that “little kid” with the wave over his/her head. Madison said that maybe it was the story that Sophie told Cody and how that little kid drowned…Sebastian then showed his picture of that “little kid” kind of bad but he tried his best I hope… Blake then asked what does unexpected meant. We had a conversation about that. Blake sounded like an angel and kept on going with her job. Stephanie then stole the spotlight and shared her journal response which was then very interesting. It was very brief also. I Karly shared my journal response and my job. My job was B-E-A-utiful. My journal response was very factual and we started to talk about her parents. Billy shared that maybe they are still alive and looking for her, who knows what might happen, we don’t know exactly till it actually says what happens to them. Mr. Watson also had a connection with Madison’s Journal Response which was kind of good… and was very helpful.

On page 173 which was very helpful: Uncle Dock said “Sophie it’s not a bad thing to rely on other people and I have been thinking on that all day and I don’t know why I can’t rely on anyone else. Uncle dock sounded like he was selfish. After that we had a conversation about independent and being not independent. We underlined that because it was an example of paradox.

174 they are talking about how the uncles got swept into the water. It gave me Goosebumps of them floating floating helpless. We also had a conversation about that… it was maybe because she had stories triggering inside of her. Maybe something bad happened that reminded her of that.

176: The hard things sometimes turn out to make you feel the best.

182: The Sea the sea the sea. I heaves and rolls and rumbles at me.

183: We’ve now decided both sail and Uncle Dock is barking orders in true captain fashion. I’m glad I know what most of the terms mean. You don’t have time to think about where starboard is or where the bonus’s locker is or the difference between a halyard and an outhaul; you have to know. And I’m glad that I’ve touched every line and pulley on the Wanderer and know how things work, because I feel as if I’m really helping and right now It doesn’t matter if it’s a girl or a boy doing it, as long as somebody gets it done. Dock is calling-

In the beginning of class we had a survey of how everybody writes down their homework. After that we all went over our vocabulary homework (pgs.63 & 64) 1. Fugitives 2.mauled 3.rural 4. Our homework for tonight is to finish our jobs and journal responses for chapters 33-38 in the wanderer and to read our reading outside of class books which are to be finished by December 14.

THe Wanderer 27-33

Today in class Mr. Watson told us to get or jobs and journal responses out. First Sharri read her summary to the class and we answered some questions that Mr. Watson asked us. After Shari went Emily shared her job she was word wizard and one word was idgit which means idiot and ham radio and it is a mores code radio and the last word was gimble is a table that doesn’t move if the boat moves. He made us open our books and underline some things in the book. We looked in the book and we looked at how we would spell our names in code. After that Jessie shared here journal response to the class.
