Today in class we opened our grammar books to page 176 One of the tricks that Mr.Watson told us was to take away the other person and see if it sounds right. The real secret is if you’re not sure whether to use a subject pronoun or an object pronoun, read the sentence aloud with only the one pronoun!!!!! If there is a preposition before the word then use whom. And if it s the first word in the sentence then you use who. There will be a question on the exam that you HAVE to use who or whom. The questions on the exam will be the exact format on page 177

Examples: To whom did you give the message?

She between Tasha and me.

Were you pointing to them or us.

The twins and their brothers played against Keith and us.

We will go to the movies without Kim and her.

Did you buy that hot dog for him or me?

The principal hurried down the hall toward Mr. Corso and us.

Honors Scribe Notes

First, Mr. Watson told us about how he ran into a bridge pole and ruined his truck… uh oh. Then, we went over our classical roots. Next, Mr. Watson realized that our classical roots were different and therefore, Sasha kept debating whether or not his answers were right. Our classical roots homework is page 37 in classical roots. This is to practice for the format of our exam. While we are taking our vocab test tomorrow he will be grading it. The classical roots on the vocab test tomorrow will be comply, copious, expletive, implement, magnanimous, microcosm, minutiae, polygon, replete, tenuous. He will give us sentences and these words will be in the word bank. After this, we went over page 176 in our grammar book. We went over pronouns as objects of prepositions. IF YOU CAN PUT A PREPOSITION BEFORE THE PRONOUN, it’s an object pronoun. If it doesn’t make sense with one object pronoun then the word is not correct The trick to remembering who and whom as object pronouns and when to use it. - If you can out the preposition in front of the pronoun you need to use whom. Ex: To whom are you giving the present… Use page 177 to practice for your exam on who or whom. THIS IS THE FORMAT ON THE FINAL. To practice for it we did ?’s 1-10. remember that the ?’s on our exam may come right from the book. Pg 171, 172, and 187 sentences may be on the exam. We will have at some point gone over the questions. OUR homework is classical routes pg 37 and we have a vocab test tomorrow.
