The Devil's Arithmetic Ch 15 and 16

First, we got our vocab tests back. Some people got morbid wrong because they only wrote unhealthy mental state for the definition, and they should have written gloomy as well.

Then, we took out our vocab books, jobs, and journal responses that were due today. The vocab pages that we had to do were pages 127 & 128.

After we were done checking our homework, Mr. Watson said that he will not be in school on Monday because he is going to Philadelphia. He also told us about something called Skype. It is really cool because you can call anyone in the world from your computer for free. He said we can download it if we want to talk to our pen pals in Italy.

Then, we talked about the TDA reading. It was chapters 15 and 16. Mr. Watson explained to why the blokova only has two fingers now. It is because she has to control her zugangi, and when she loses control of them, they go and take off one of her fingers, which is gross. He also explained that the midden means garbage. All the little children jump in the midden when the commandant comes because if he sees them, he will kill them because small children shouldn’t be there. We talked about Reuven and how he got caught with the commandant. He just came from the hospital and had bad timing. So, since he didn’t have a mom, the commandant, Breuer, said that he would make sure he is with her. That meant that he was going to kill Reuven.

Pgs. 139 140 and 141 talks about rooban. Look at page 135 Mr. Watson says that that page is very important because it tells why the name is the Devils Arithmetic. This is because they have numbers of how many day they are in the death camps and the devils part is because of how bad it is.
