Impressive Scribe Work!

Thanks to the diligent notes from Christiana, Sarah B., and Olivia you all have today's work on the blog as well. Feel free to practice copying and pasting.

Today in class we first of all did the analogy. Of course we were correct. After that we took attendance and Jad was late to class. After that we went over the lit. Vocabulary spelling and definitions in case you didn’t get them here they are-

1. plot- the story or sequence of events in a narrated of presented work such as a novel, play, or movie
2. theme- a distinct or unifying idea; a reoccurring
3. mood- the feeling that a story has and the feeling that it makes the reader have. The mood can be happy, sad, exited, fearful, or many others
4. Direct characterization-the writer makes direct statements about a character’s personality and tells what the character is like
5. Indirect characterization- the writer reveals information about a character and his personality through that character’s thoughts, words, and actions, along with how other characters respond to that character, including what they think and say about him
6. Point of view –the perspective from which a story is told i.e. 3rd person
7. setting- time AND place in which a story occurs
8. Short stories- a work of prose fiction that is shorter than a novel
9. conflict- opposition b/n or among characters or forces in a literary work that shapes and motivates the action of the plot
10. irony- an outcome of events contrary of what was or might have been expected
11. symbolism- symbolic meaning or character
12. allusion- a reverence that is made indirectly, subtly suggested, or implied
13. Inference- a conclusion drawn from evidence or reasoning
14. Foreshadow- to indicate or suggest something, usually something unpleasant that is going to happen
15. flashback- a scene or event from the past that appears in a narrative out of chronological order to fill in information or explain something in the present

We also talked about what would be on the vocab test and what it would be set up like. It will have definitions and spelling is required. He will also have a couple of sentences. Don’t forget that the final copy of you Hoot essay is due on Monday.
